
North County Elementary serves a
community of single family homes and
apartments. It is the northernmost
elementary school within the Miami-Dade
County Public School district.
The school was founded in 1962 and
established a community school several
years later to better meet the needs of
its citizens. It is composed of 40 class-
rooms, two pods, eight portables, a
cafeteria, and media center.
North County Elementary recieves Title I
funds used to target low-performing
students who are struggling with academic
achievement. The school also provides an
Exceptional Student Education (ESE)
Center servicing emotionally handicapped
and severely emotionally disturbed students
who reside in the northeast boundaries of
Region Center I.
The Media Center features a computer lab
and books in a variety of subjects. North
County Elementary utilizes the Accelerated
Reader system to assess student progress
in reading. Students are encouraged to
check out books frequently.
